Nothing can outshine a mug of hot milky frothy coffee served with English muffins. Coffee brewing is characterized by a rich roasted aroma, that wafts the early morning chilly aura.

Comrades!!! Today, I am going to be very honest with you all, no matter how the truth hurts. If you cannot enthusiastically embark in your daily activities or thought that coffee is what rejuvenates and causes ripples all over your tantalized skin, then you may be suffering from coffee dependency. However, low intakes of coffee are essential to the normalcy of our health status, but too much of coffee disrupts the equilibrium of our human physiology. Accounting professionals, before you smash that thermo flask, save me the sanity, I had to tell it all.

All brands of coffee contain a chemical referred to as caffeine which stimulates the dopamine receptors (the ‘pleasure region’) in the brain; as well as adrenaline, both which makes us feel good. High doses of caffeine may make one to feel nervous, anxious, edgy, nauseated or rather jittery. The impact of caffeine has a win-win role just like the way medicines are curative or rather preventive, but they come with side effects. The effect of caffeine was manipulated in the Mexican traditions, where coffee was taken before sex, with an aim of having incredible sex that could be envied by Kamasutra sex godesses.

We all know that new habits are formed through small efforts put out consistently over a long period of time; therefore, stopping daily coffee intake instantly, results in alteration of cerebral blood flow. Caffeine slows blood flow into the brain leading to a severe headache, which is oftenly accompanied by dizziness; typically, harboured in a solitude mood. In my Medical Microbiology career, I would recommend that all coffee brands should have consumer’s warning description on the packaging “Excessive consumption of Coffee is Harmful to your Health.” In real sense, the human species should be imparted knowledge on the dangers of too much coffee; through offering societal and communal campaigns, which should be conducted by medical professionals. For God’s sake!!! Coffee is a drug but not a cocktail juice; therefore, the intake should be regulated. In fact, the manufacturers should give a prescription that has been recommended by a certified medical practitioner.

Truly, mankind should be saved from the jaws of death but unfortunately everyone is chasing money. Everyone wants to become a millionaire if not a billionaire and the coffee manufacturers top the list of the ever ungrateful human race who yearn to become filthy rich. Ladies and Gentlemen!!! this issue of everyone focusing on chasing material possessions, really baffles me to the core of my heart. Believe it or not the world has turn out to be very materialistic; where one’s worth is judged by material pocessions. This materialistic mentality has attacked the medical facilities and food industries across the globe, hence the human well-being is overlooked, since the real motivation is money. However, there are products such as energy drinks (power play, Azam, Red bull, monster) which bear instructions and warnings to prevent lethal side effects caused by high amount of caffeine. In a world where money seems to run the world, it is important to take care of yourself and define your self – worth; don’t let anyone ever define your worth.

Last week, I visited The University of Nairobi (Department of Food Science and Technology) where certified profound nutritional analysis is done and my heart melted with joy like butter exposed to direct heat. I perused a file containing documented products, which did not qualify for nutritional certification and at the sight of the last document I marveled; exposing my white egg-shell teeth to the flickering rays of light. The rejected products majorly contained extremely high amount of caffeine coined from concentrated coffee and Viagra. I proceeded to Kenya National Library to conduct a research on Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, with an aim of knowing why would a person with humane instincts decide to lace products with Viagra’s hyperactive ingredients. My research work revealed to me that the human species are best motivated sexually. This was confirmed to me by Imor Abaga (Branding Artist); he told me that a poorly manufactured product branded with a photo of a naked woman or man would sell more. Also branding the product using sexually enticing words would attract more traffic among the human population. Surely, I bow down to the old adage; muttered by my much coveted octogenarian grandma on the verge of her sweet death, “Not all that glitters is gold.” I don’t have to repeat again guys, take great care of yourselves, the same way the mother hen takes care of her chicks. The world ain’t all rainbow and sunshine, it is a very mean and nasty place to be and it doesn’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees, only if you let it. You are the master of your own health; you know what is good for you.
My esteemed audience I have reached at the climax of my well researched article, as you all stroll on the linoleum – checked floors of supermarkets, diligently pushing trolleys and stretching hands to get those attractive coffee cans /tins, think deeply about your health. Thanks for reading, see you next time.
