PEKEJENG!!!

Music is the food to the soul; it nourishes tender hearts and minds. The Holy Bible vividly displays David excellently playing the harp for the tormented king Saul aiming to cast out the evil spirit in him, hence calming him down. However, in the 21st century things are different. Wamlambez… Wamnyonyez… is a hit song in Kenya produced by Sailors group of artists. The punch lines in the song produced by the ‘Sailoring’ artists are considered to be sexually intonated. In real sense, the last time I heard the word pekejeng was from a bespectacled nerdy girl in campus who confidently walked towards me, her dress sweeping the pavements. This girl whom I will name Nikita said to me, “Hello! Johnny, it’s been long time; otherwise how is the going?” I briefly replied, “I am doing great.” Nikita caressed my well-shaved head and whispered to my attentive ears, “Let`s go to my room, get naked, get between the sheets and pekejeng until sunrise; better than we used to do.”
The young generation is drinking in bad manners through music. Artists are corrupting the minds of kids; believe it or not. I attended my neighbour’s son, Ethan, birthday party and my mouth was left agap. A kid whom I will name Ben Ten was considered an extremely talented musician. Ben Ten performed Lamba Lolo (meaning suck the ‘lollypop candy’). The original producers of the song, ‘Ethics’ were asked the meaning of their hit song Lamba Lolo in a popular TV show which I woun’t mention. The hit makers said that the song was self-explanatory; “The meaning is what your mind think it is,” one of the musician said laughing. It is very sad that the society adopts the dirty words used in music and uses the words in their daily lives. Lamba Lolo is used by the members of the society to push someone away. Willy Paul a controversial gospel artist released a hit song Lamba Nyonyo (meaning suck a boob) which is coined from the happily accepted Lamba Lolo hit.
Our country Kenya is lacking morals (tunakosa adabu). A song could be banned in Tanzania but be played in Kenya. Eeh nyege nyege kwetu mwanza nyegezi Hmm nyege nyege nishushe mwanza nyegezi. ‘Nyegezi’ by Diamond Platinumz is a good example. If you want to know how rotten a portion of the young generation is, just attend a bash (whether a pool party or a house party) and you will see the dancing styles, drugs and songs ‘making’ the airwaves well lit.
The young generation is lacking mentors who help in curbing their behavior and motivating them to challenge their status quo. Parents nowadays have no time with their kids; most of them focus on seeking money and other material possessions. It is not a wonder to see a parent taking her kids to a boarding school at a very tender age; in an aim to have all the time in the world without distractions. Today, most churches do not nature young talents but instead they focus in fundraising and obtaining offerings from the congregation. However, a girl who I will name Manzi Wa Nyeri once told me we are living in a free world; meaning one is free to do what he or she wants. The ‘free world’ mentality drives the young people to get-rich quick schemes, clearly seen in the young persons seeking sponsors and sugar mummies. The problem with everyone is that they want to achieve success but not willing to pay the price through hard work, patience and determination.
Roll up your sleeves today, work hard and build up your character.
