Hair loss also known as alopecia is a concern for people from all walks of life. Too many hairs may start to be seen on your comb during shampooing process, you will certainly have a fleeting moment of stress. Hair is an important aspect of women’s overall beauty as the crowning glory. While hair is very resilient, lots of stress will make it fragile. Such stress may be due to colour changes, bleaching, or frequent use of a flat iron. These hair treatments have no effect on the amount of hair you have growing on your scalp. However, they do damage the shafts, making them brittle. This can lead to tangling and breakage; so while you still have a lot of hair, it may become dull and split. Ensure you take good care of chemically treated hair through regular treatments.
Hair loss is inherited from your father. Genetics can cause hair loss in women, but not in the majority of cases. However, you are most likely to have an increased risk of hair loss if it is prevalent in the female side of your family- mother, maternal grandmother or sister. Nevertheless, the majority of hair loss results from nutritional deficiency such as thyroid.
Tips to stimulate hair growth.
Diet:
As hair consist of protein, a common cause of thinning or unhealthy hair is lack of dietary protein. The most important meals for protein intake are breakfast and lunch. First class proteins for hair are meat, fish, chicken and eggs.
Massage:
Scalp massage before shampooing stimulates circulation and gets oxygen and nutrients flowing to hair follicles. One minute in a day is all you need.
Hormonal imbalance:
If you have unexplained hair loss, you may want to see a doctor for a blood test to assess your hormone levels. If thyroid disorder is detected, treatment for these imbalances could lead to an improvement in hair growth.
Avoid stress:
Stress is sometimes blamed for excessive hair loss. It can lead to an increase in androgen (male hormone) which can be responsible for the loss.
Supplements:
Hair strengthening supplements such as those containing biotin, which stimulates hair growth, can be used.
